The Head Bean (Gary Lowenthal) decided against marketing his collections in large discount-type stores. And what bear would be complete without her very own chair? The Bear Necessities is a line of little furniture that is made for the plush animals and dolls. Gary later went on to add other lines to the Boyds Bears collection: Folkstones, Wee Folkstones, and even a Dollstone Collection (dolls that come with either small dolls or bears for them to play with!) Boyds even offers garden statues in their line. The Boyds Bears come in their own little outfits and some of them come with their own little accessories. Who would have thought that Boyds Bears would become such highly collectible stuffed toys and resin figurines? There are actually fan clubs for these adorable little bears (and other animals and dolls.) Perhaps a reason for all of the fanfare is that each individual Boyds Bear has a personality of her own. The resin collection of Boyds Bears is called the Boyds Bearstone Collection. Gary added resin figurines to the already expanding plush animals collection. (Not to worry, they also have Bailey Bears named after their daughter!)īoyds Bears moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania as the Boyds Collection Ltd. While the Lowenthals were selling antique reproductions wholesale, Gary made his first fully-jointed Teddy Bear, “Matthew.” Matthew was the name of the Lowenthal’s son, as well as the name of their first official Boyds Bear. They started out with a business that dealt in antiques. The Boyds Bears company went out of business in 2014, and no more figurines or plush or dolls will be made.Gary Lowenthal and his wife Justine left their high pressure jobs in order to pursue their interests. I have been told that this Boyds figurine is very difficult to find in perfect condition, and this one is just like new.īEARSTONE SIZE: 3 inches high x 3.75 inches wide "Christmas Big Pig, Little Pig" is referenced in the "Secondary Market Price Guide to Boyds Bears and Friends" by Rosie Wells Enterprises, Inc., 1997, page 22. It will come in the original green box, with the original packing it also has the Boyds Certificate of Authenticity.īoyds Collection figurines have been highly collected since their introductions. The figurine is in perfect condition, and was only displayed in a closed cabinet. "Christmas Big Pig, Little Pig" was released in 1994, and was retired within a few months. Some of the later edition figures were available in Canada. The First Edition figures were available in the United States at one specific store, and never sold at Boyds retailers. The bottom of the figure shows the hand written number, and this one is a 1E (First Edition), and over to the side of that is the hand signed signature of Gary Lowenthal, the creator of the Boyds Bears and founder of the company. This hand painted resin figurine has so many details it is an amazing sculpture and design, requiring a lot of expertise. The large pig is wearing a holly berry wreath, and both angels have colorful wings. Here is a very rare Boyds Bearstone called "Christmas Big Pig, Little Pig", which features two pig angels the larger pig is holding a basket of gold stars and the small pig is holding a trumpet.
